The Last 12 Months
The Last 12 months.....
Well what can I say....my first year as a Councillor for Ifield has passed in a flash!
Last year I served on the Licensing Committee, General Purposes, Grants Appeals, licensing Sub-Committee, the housing and Environment Policy Development Forum and the West of Crawley Joint Steering Group plus a very busy year with ward issues....phew!
My first year was a huge learning experience as it was my first year in local politics - but despite this I managed to get involved in a number of other projects that came up due to my ward work within Ifield.
I worked very closely with Ifield Edwards Football club last year when they were advised that the site that they have as their home was to be sold. This meant that they would not only lose their Country Standard that they had worked so hard to achieve, but the childrens teams would also have no home - this would affect a huge number of kids.
I am still working with the management as their future is still in doubt, however things are now starting to look better for them.
We also had some Anti Social Behaviour issues in Ifield last year, both at Ifield Parade and also in Hyde Drive, because of this I started to look at the facilities for teenagers within the Ward. I asked WSCC to engage the teenagers in Ifield - particularly in Hyde Drive where the ASB was more prevelent - to see if we could consider a Youth Club being started in the Community Centre. WSCC have completed a 10 week programme of activities with the young people and are running a second programme with them before we look at a Youth Club for them.
From the work that I did with the teenagers in Ifield, I looked at the teenage facilities throughout the whole of Crawley and presented my findings to Crawley Borough Council and WSCC - we have now agreed a joint review going forward with the support from Chief Inspector Curry and Crawley Police. This is very exciting and we will be engaging the youth in Crawley at each step to ensure that we are providing facilities that they will actually use!
Councillor John Denman, Councillor Dan Kavanagh and I were also consulted about the proposals for the Neighborhood improvement scheme for Ifield Parade, we consulted with residents over concerns and ideas for the improvements and I am really looking forward to the face-lift! There are further updates on this project on the NEWS page.
